Questions: The external brick walls of my house are painted to protect the bricks but the paint needs new coats at regular intervals. I am thinking of having the bricks rendered to provide a maintenance free surface but will the paint have to be removed before the rendering is done?
Most people will want the paint to be removed for render to be applied to the external walls for a cheaper final price, but you can do something called meshing where they will apply a mesh to the wall to give the wall a key for the render to adhere to. Any more questions don’t hesitate to ask
Hi Katy, if the paint is fairly sound it can be rendered over with a specialist renovation render, Baumit MC55 for example. This acts as the sealer coat and then tender can be applied over the top . If you need anything else please let me know. Tony south Woodham Plastering
Thanks
Remove any loose paint ideally with a pressure washer
There are now many types of render you can use that can be applied over painted surfaces. Parex parinter is one
The painted bricks need a wire brush to remove any flaky paint then a application of weber rendaid or render is applied to the painted areas. This will allow for the render to be applied without any issues.
Hi Katie, If your paint is not Flaky or peeling there is a product called fassachouche which has a base coat designed to go over painted walls, It’s a brilliant product, andy Samson is the rep send some photos and he can guide you and also give you your guarantee.
