Is there a particular paint that works best for kitchen cupboards please?
They're currently a cheap wood looking with a black worktop but I'd like to try giving them a lick of white paint, perhaps spraying the handles black too before I either wrap them or get a whole new kitchen altogether... in the future

I use F&b water base estate eggshell for the cupboards topcoat with a primer undercoat for the base coat, but there are many other brands out there but must be water base

first I always use a primer first, I recommend zinsser shellac based primer sealer ,it’s extremely tough but it does dry quick so you need to crack on when painting the doors,I use a brush for the fiddly bits and a small short hair roller for the larger areas.
finish paint I tend to use dulux diamond eggshell or farrow and ball eggshell but to be fair most water based eggshell paints do the job.
the choice of paint is vast,
first find out what the cabinets door are made of?
its all in the prep kitchen cabinets musr be washed though before painting
use sugar soap & make sure they are squeaky clean!
i use
zinsser 123 plus as an adhesion primer followed by Tikkerila Helmi 10 or 30
use two fussy blokes mini roller sleeves
I recommend taking the doors & drawers off label every hinge & door
i use an E-Rector Rack

no you don’t need to put anything on top of the paint,it’s all about the primer .a quality primer will stop the paint chipping and coming off . Most of todays quality water based eggshell paints are very tough.
