    Hey everyone,

We've heard from our partners at TradePoint to share with you all and give you a heads up that there is 10% off this weekend exclusive to TradePoint members.

As per usual, you'll get your Checkatrade members discount off extra on top so, this is an offer not to be missed!

    Don't walk... RUN 🏃

I'm going to head down to get some black paint and some wood myself to attempt the new Acupanel trend, I'll share a photo in the comments below

    Kindest regards
    Lauren

Hi @Lauren I have always got 10% discount on my TradePoint card but I have never noticed the additional 10% as a Checkatrade member, although I am signed up. If you remember when you introduced the partnership with TradePoint I asked the question ‘does this offer mean we get 20% discount on everything at all times’ and you said yes. If this is not the case please tell me what is the advantage of this partnership if I get 10% from TradePoint anyway?

Hey @ChelseaDave, oh yes, I remember you saying before!

So you got your Tradepoint care directly through them? If so, the deal you get is 'up to 10% off' where you need to be spending around £1000 pm to get the 10% off. I'll pop a screenshot below.

Ours is a straight 10% even if you only spent £1!

Hi @Lauren I now understand the Checkatrade versus B&Q discount and its good but not the best because it is a fixed rate! I honestly don't get B&Q's £1000 per month, who in their right mind spends that sort of money with B&Q on a monthly basis when there are much better deals to be found elsewhere? B&Q is just a DIY store for bits and bobs, a day out for some people and not particularly cheap. Anyway, actual tradespeople are far better off using dedicated trade suppliers and in many cases being able to negotiate even better prices! For example regarding your discount partnership with Selco, I always negotiate directly with the management and get a much better discount than 10% and on occasions it has been as much as 40%. The trick is to email exactly what you want and ask them what is the best they can do, you may be surprised. Of course I'm not saying a guaranteed 10% is something to be sniffed at as all savings help, but when you can do much better isn't that what being in business is all about? As I've mentioned before try this, sign up to Wickes TradePro and get 10% off everything at all times, but look out for when they do their 15% discounts on everything for everybody. When you see this ask if you can add your 10% trade discount to the 15% store discount and get 25% off everything. A brilliant example of this is I bought £1600 of real oak flooring and with my 25% discount I saved a whopping £400. It just goes to show you have absolutely nothing to lose by simply asking!

    Hey @ChelseaDave

Thank you for getting back to me and sharing this great advice and information.

It truly is a matter if you don't ask then you don't get. I might try it Sunday in B&Q - I'll update if I had any luck next week 🤞

£1000 pm does sound quite a lot doesn't it! I wonder if this is something that's negotiable also, has there been anywhere else you've successfully asked and bagged a better deal?

    Kindest regards,
    Lauren

Hi @Lauren I doubt you would have much luck with B&Q as it is retail and you wouldn’t even know who to ask! It would be like going into Tesco and trying to do a deal for a tin of baked beans, it wouldn’t work! But trade suppliers are different and I try my luck with all of them, you win some and you lose some but at least you have tried. What you’ve got to remember is suppliers have a much bigger buying power so they buy in large volumes. But they also have to sell on. They want your business plus they want you to keep coming back for more, so to do this they have to make prices attractive to stop you using their competitors. It’s a dog eat dog world but as long as they make some profit everyone can be a winner.
