08th December 2020: Updated Checkatrade Standard

Please click here to view our updated ‘Checkatrade Standard.’ We have always had a Checkatrade Standard, or formerly known as Code of Conduct & Ethics, but they were in much need of a review to keep them up to date and relevant.

‘The Checkatrade Standard’ is something our members can be proud of, and we have a copy on the Checkatrade website for all consumers to see why they can trust a Checkatrade member like you.

The Checkatrade Standard can be found in your Member Area and also includes a section on ‘Working safely in customer’s homes’ relating to COVID-19 advice. It also includes advice on how to handle disputes to prevent negative reviews and a reminder of some of the membership requirements we have, including always providing up to date Public Liability Insurance.

You may even want to print a copy out and share with your customers so they are aware of the high standards of Checkatrade members.

Maybe check a trade should look at how it's treating its paying members before telling us how to treat our customers, there is no standard set by this company anymore,

    Hi @Katy
If we are supposed to have in date public liability why are companies with no insurance, flagged by cat showing on first 2 pages of searches? Surely people with up to date info should be showing before them, or does this new rotation not account for insurance being in date? Serious question as when I spoke to advice team the other day she did a search and mentioned there was 3 people with no insurance showing and would not answer when I asked how they are showing on first page used to be that if documents wernt up to date you did not show I'm searches?

Just to prove my point I searched roofer Bh177yh 1 on page 1 and first 2 on page 2 says insurance expired, yet they are still showing ahead of people who probably have sent there documents in and are now bottom of the list?
Sorry for bombarding with messages but this infuriates me, and we get a message telling us a code of conduct

Hi @Pete293160 I think you have 30 days after it’s expired to get it renewed, but agree with you they shouldn’t be listed before you , in my opinion it looks bad .

    Hi Sean
I get the 30 days no problem with that, but exposure on front pages seems to be pot luck now, if cat list them as expired insurance, they should not show in searches, especially when sending us a list of things we need to do and that is one of he "important things" some members are paying and keeping info up to date and are bottom of the list. Also looks bad for customers searching. Maybe these members are not bothering as they plan to leave soon also due to no calls coming in haha

Well done for highlighting this,CAT seriously need to adress this as it does look bad for potential customers to see.
personally as soon as you insurance has expired you should be taken off ASAP

That's how it used to be, I'm sure when I joined if your insurance ran out you were taken out of searches, when I questioned on the phone other day the girl was saying it makes cat transparent showing they are not insured, but they should not be listed above people who are, wonder how they think seeing people on first pages with no insurance not vmgoing to give much confidence to our customers is it

    Hi @Katy
Another question which was never answered in another thread,
I believe with this change to rotation of members we were told to change our home post code to the area we want to work on, it was worded that we can change our home post code for free on the site? Unless I have read this wrong, (I can't find the original post now) surely this goes against the vetting of making sure we are wh we say.?i did question this on the Q&A but there was never any answer given, have I read this correct that we can put a fake postcode to get in the area we want?
    Cheers.

I have found the post from the original link, but can't post a pic on this thread for some reason it's in the info about fair visability for members
